Calling all off-roaders who love a challenging adventure! Weezie's offers both guided trips and rentals to Goose Lake, the ultimate destination for Red River's guests. Intermediate and above drivers should prepare to climb in elevation with Weezie’s Wild Rides in our current model, state-of-the-art Polaris side by sides. Starting at 8,500 feet, you will climb mountainous terrain and reach an elevation of over 11,500 feet. This narrow, steep rugged forest road will lead you through the Sangre de Cristos mountain range, past Bunker Hill Mine, and eight miles later to the shores of Goose Lake. The first two miles of this forest road are called "the narrows" by locals and is a series of very narrow switchbacks with a canyon on one side and a sheer rock wall on the other. Coming around the last bend and small hill into the parking lot at Goose Lake is an incredible feeling. You'll honestly believe you’ve entered another world! This pristine, natural alpine lake is framed by the Carson National Forest and Gold Hill. There is an advanced hiking trail for intermediate to advanced hikers that guests can explore to stretch their legs and see more of the mountainous terrain that isn’t accessible by vehicle. You will have unrestricted views of Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico, and more. While soaking in the scenery, you will have the opportunity to see bighorn sheep scaling the mountainside. Wildlife that have been spotted by past guests include elk, bobcat, cougar and bear as well as other small forest animals and birds. Overlooks along the way include the historic Placer Creek mines and abandoned mining cabins from the early 1900s, where an estimated 662,000 ounces of gold were produced from the deposits.
