Calling all off-roaders who love a challenging adventure! Weezie's offers both guided trips and rentals to Goose Lake, the ultimate destination for Red River's guests. Intermediate and above drivers should prepare to climb in elevation with Weezie’s Wild Rides in our current model, state-of-the-art Polaris side by sides. Starting at 8,500 feet, you will climb mountainous terrain and reach an elevation of over 11,500 feet. This narrow, steep rugged forest road will lead you through the Sangre de Cristos mountain range, past Bunker Hill Mine, and eight miles later to the shores of Goose Lake. The first two miles of this forest road are called "the narrows" by locals and is a series of very narrow switchbacks with a canyon on one side and a sheer rock wall on the other. Be forewarned to take care and go slow with 4WD and Low gear engaged. This is a two way, multi use road. Read more

Coming around the last bend and small hill into the parking lot at Goose Lake is an incredible feeling. You'll honestly believe you’ve entered another world! This pristine, natural alpine lake is framed by the Carson National Forest and Gold Hill. There is an advanced hiking trail for intermediate to advanced hikers that guests can explore to stretch their legs and see more of the mountainous terrain that isn’t accessible by vehicle. You will have unrestricted views of Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico, and more. While soaking in the scenery, you will have the opportunity to see bighorn sheep scaling the mountainside. Wildlife that have been spotted by past guests include elk, bobcat, cougar and bear as well as other small forest animals and birds. Overlooks along the way include the historic Placer Creek mines and abandoned mining cabins from the early 1900s, where an estimated 662,000 ounces of gold were produced from the deposits. Take one of our Polaris Slingshots and hit the road! The most popular tour in our area, this National Forest Scenic Byway, also known as the Enchanted Circle, passes Wheeler Peak, the highest peak in New Mexico at 13,161 feet. Throughout the drive, you’ll see some of the oldest rocks in the southwest – quartz and feldspar that date back two billion years. Look for special Enchanted Circle markers to help guide your way. The views are spectacular, and enjoying them from an open air Polaris Slingshot is the best way to breathe in the mountain air and ride the curvy mountain roads! Read more

You’ll start out from our home, Red River. Enjoy a stroll through this family-oriented town with an old west feel, complete with saloons and a melodrama. Red River offers winter skiing and snowboarding at the Red River Ski & Summer Area; the ski area lifts also operate in the summer. As you leave Red River begin looking for elk and other wildlife between Bob Cat Pass and Eagle Nest Lake, one of the finest trout lakes in the United States. Visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial just outside of Angel Fire. Drive the twisting Taos Canyon road to Taos. Many artists live and work in this canyon. Studios and galleries – painting, pottery, bronze casting, woodworking – are open for visitors to watch artists create their art. Stop to visit the Plaza shopping in Taos, or drive over the Rio Grande Gorge bridge. Travel through the lush Hondo Valley and watch for the sign to the D.H. Lawrence Memorial. Stop at the Red River Fish Hatchery which has free self-guiding tours of a show pond and several trout raceways. In Questa, you will want to visit Artesanos de Questa. Local woodworkers, tinsmiths, painters, stained glass workers and sculptors show their work at this cooperative. A short drive off of the main road, north of Questa, will take you the Wild Rivers National Monument where the Rio Grande and the Red River meet. End your ride going back to Red River and hopefully you'll catch a glance of the Bighorn Sheep herds that reside near the canyon many months out of the year. Read less
